Introducing Tesla Android (2nd Generation)

Introducing Tesla Android (2nd Generation)

Faster. Cooler. Smarter. More tightly integrated.

Today we’re excited to launch the 2nd generation Tesla Android hardware. Take a look at this beauty!

It runs the brand-new 2025.46.1 software update (with full turn-by-turn GPS support) and brings a long list of meaningful improvements over our first-generation device — all based on real-world feedback from thousands of drivers.

Let’s dive in.

Built for your Tesla. Refined for the future.

Improved cooling

The new enclosure improves airflow with refined fan control. It keeps the device cooler under load, in summer heat, or parked in the sun — perfect for an automotive environment where reliability matters more than benchmarks.

All antennas, now internal

Wi-Fi, LTE, and access point antennas are now fully integrated inside the enclosure.

This reduces clutter and significantly cuts the amount of space the device occupies in the center console. A cleaner install with the same strong connectivity.

Included Real Time Clock module

Cold boots are now much faster and far more reliable.

A device that wakes up with the wrong time often hits HTTPS certificate errors until the clock syncs from the internet — the RTC fixes that. Your device now knows the time even before it goes online.

Faster storage (and new storage options)

We’ve switched storage vendors across the entire lineup. All storage variants are made by Raspberry Pi, making them a perfect match for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module

The new NVMe SSDs deliver noticeably faster boot times and improved responsiveness.

We also added a new 128GB High Endurance SD option — a more cost-effective configuration that still meets our durability requirements for automotive use.

Refined enclosure design - improved I/O access

Our new enclosure makes it much easier to plug accessories to your device by bringing all the ports in line with the edges. We've also improved the internals, our 2nd generation hardware is easier to assemble and repair.

Still powered by CM4 — and for good reason

At the heart of the device is the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, just like the 1st generation.

The newer CM5 unfortunately lacks the hardware-accelerated video encoding required for Tesla Android’s display pipeline to function. Keeping the CM4 allows us to deliver the high-FPS, low-latency virtual display experience you expect.

But this generation is much faster anyway.

Since the original release, we’ve rewritten large parts of our display stack. Tesla Android 2nd gen renders roughly twice as fast purely through software improvements — and we’re nowhere near done. Expect even more performance gains in the upcoming Holiday Update.

Upgrade kit for 1st generation owners

We don’t believe in leaving early adopters behind.

For 89 EUR, 1st gen owners can purchase an upgrade bundle containing all parts needed to take advantage of everything above: new enclosure, antennas, cooling and the RTC module.

Just move your existing main board into the new case — a 10-minute job — and you’re up to date.

You can purchase the upgrade kit in our store.

Plug-and-play. No surprises.

Like before, the 2nd gen Tesla Android is fully plug and play.

Power via USB-C, insert an optional SIM card, and you’re ready.

No wiring to your car’s infotainment system.

No warranty issues.

No hidden configuration.

Just open your Tesla browser, connect, and run Android apps exactly as you would on any phone or tablet.

Use Google Maps or Waze for turn-by-turn navigation (now with perfect GPS!), stream lossless music, watch video, or tinker to your heart’s content. It’s all open source.

Why dedicated hardware matters

We validate every component — thermals, endurance, RF behavior, storage stability, everything. Automotive environments are harsh, and we’ve built this device to survive them.

High-endurance storage, integrated antennas, active cooling, strong Wi-Fi and LTE — it all adds up.

Our hardware gives you the smoothest Tesla Android experience you can get.

Long-term support

We’ve been shipping updates since 2022, and we’re not stopping.

Every device receives frequent OTA software releases, adapting to Tesla’s ever-changing ecosystem while continually pushing performance and features forward.

Hardware sales directly fund our engineering work — the software remains fully open source.
